Security When You’re Not At Home
Going Away Or Just Popping Out?
Whether it’s that “long awaited” holiday, a business trip, or even just a visit to the shops. Your home is more vulnerable when you are away. Luckily, there are plenty of things that you can do to keep things safe until you return.
Close and lock all doors and windows properly
Don’t chance it, even if you’re just on the school run. Insecure doors and windows can allow a burglar access in just a matter of seconds.
Don’t forget that even the smallest open window can be useful to a burglar.
Don’t draw attention to the fact that you’re not there
If you think you’ll be home late. It may be tempting to draw the curtains early. Although fine at night, this may look conspicuous in the middle of the day. Consider asking a friend or neighbour to pop in and close them later.
These days there are a number of products available to give the impression that someone’s home. Special light fittings, for instance, can be used that will randomly turn a light on and off at certain times to simulate activity in the house.
Do avoid, however, just leaving lights on 24 hours a day as this looks unnatural too. (We know someone who does, and we only know when he’s away because of
The glaring, 24 hour light display)!
